1. What are the responisbilities of KOU members?

A. Ulysses is a "working" krewe, each member is expected to participate in all work parties. These are most often during the months preceding the ball when all mini-floats and other props are decorated for the ball. The krewe recognizes that work and other things may prevent a member from attending every work party, but each is obligated to attend as many as possible. Also, member's wives/girlfriends are encouraged to participate in work parties, especially if they have elected to be a court memeber. It is highly recommended that either the member or his wife/girlfriend attend each work party.

B. KOU members are expected to assist with all required work associated with holding krewe fundraisers. This includes being present in the morning for initial set up, performing assigned duties during the event; assisting other members with their assignements as needed and assisting with clean-up and break-down after the event.

C. Members are required to attend all monthly meetings as the main business of the krewe is conducted at these meetings. KOU recognizes that a member may be unable to attend every meeting, but 3 unexcused abscenses is cause for expulsion from the krewe. Please contact a board member if you will be unable to attend a meeting especially if you have missed the previous meeting.

D. Each member must be willing to chair krewe events and projects, sit on committees or hold office if elected.

2. How are the Court members selected?

A. Krewe members are selected by "luck-of-the-draw" with eligibility as determined in the By-laws.

B. KOU members, by secret ballot, elect female members of the court. Eligibility requirements for female court members are outlined in the By-laws. Candidates voluntarily submit their names at application time each year.

3. Are children included in KOU activities?

A. The Krewe of Ulysses is an adult male krewe. Gatherings usually include the consumption of alcohol and are not geared toward anyone under the age of 21.

4. Who is eligible to ride the parade floats?

A. All KOU members and their wives/girlfriends are eligible to ride all parades at the present time.

B. Friends/relatives over the age of 21 are eligible to ride on a space available basis, excluding the Pascagoula Mardi Gras parade, which is reserved for KOU members and their wives/girlfriends and court members to include slave girls. This does not include non-member affiliated court members or slave girls husbands/boyfriends.

5. How does someone become a member of KOU?

B. Each prospective member must meet eligibility criteria outlined in the By-laws prior to being voted on by krewe members at the monthly meeting after completing all requirements.

C. Candidates selected for memebership will serve a 1 year probationary period. At the end of the probationary period, the new member will meet with the executive committee in closed session.
